Line Dances!

Here are some fifth graders from Ms. Hart's class showing off their fancy dance moves to "Galopede," a piece of English folk music. We moved the dance from the music room to the hall to create two long parallel lines for fun and for extra space to move safely. We look forward to trying it again with another folk dance in the next few weeks!

Over the River and through the Wood

Fourth grade classes learned and performed the traditional American Thanksgiving song "Over the River and through the Wood." Each class took turns critiquing their work to think about what worked well and what they would strive to improve the next time they sang this song or a similar one. It was a fun exercise and here is one of their "works-in-progress" that we hope you enjoy listening to, as well.

See the Rhythms of the Seesaw

Check out some first graders reading, responding, editing, and performing rhythmic representations of music symbols (quarter notes and eighth notes) in different patterns!

Same and Different

First graders worked together to compose class poems after examining the piece of art "Paris Street; Rainy Day" by the French artist Gustave Caillebotte.   They discussed parts of the image that are the same or different and how this scene is same or different from a street or place in the neighborhood.  They then performed their poems with and without instruments to a steady beat and experimented with different dynamic levels to see if it made the poems more interesting.

Are you still needing to turn in a Digital Image Permission Form so you can also appear on the blog?

Here are images of the permission slip you may print out and turn it in to your classroom teacher with your parent or guardian's signature.

AB Patterns!

Watch and listen as a first grade class sings and chants a poem to show the differences between the A section (part of the song "One Little Elephant") and the B section (the poem "Big and Small").

The Little Mice All Scamper

Here are some kindergarteners pretending to be mice scampering or running away from the "Old Gray Cat" in class. They are working on demonstrating the differences between fast and slow sounds and movements in music.

Hi, I'm Ms. Kasab!

Hi!  I'm Ms. Kasab and I'm so excited to be working at Farmland this year.  I've been teaching elementary and choral music in MCPS since 2000 and am glad to be a part of the Farmland family.  The purpose of this blog is to highlight what students are working on throughout the year in music through pictures, videos, and sometimes audio clips.

I hope you enjoy seeing what students are learning and thanks for visiting!
