May 15, 2019 Spring Chorus Concert Updates!

Hi Chorus!

Our Chorus Concerts are on WEDNESDAY, May 15th, 2019.  Please remember to wear a white shirt and black/dark pants or a skirt.


Remember to review all the lyrics for our songs.  ALL music will be sung from memory!  :-)

5th Grade Chorus Music--Please Practice! :-)

Fifth graders:  It’s time to practice, practice, practice for our upcoming concerts!

Please remember this important dates:
1.  Wednesday, May 17th at 9:30 a.m.   The Blue Ribbon Ceremony.
You will be performing for the school and various educational representatives.
Please remember to wear your blue fifth grade “FARMLAND” tee-shirt to school and black pants/skirts.
2.  Wednesday, May 24th Spring Chorus Concerts at 9:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 7 p.m. (please return by 6:45 p.m.)
You will be performing for the school during the day and for your families at night!
Please remember to wear a white shirt and black pants/skirts.
      3. Thursday, June 14th in the morning.  The Fifth Grade Promotion Ceremony!
You will be performing for your families in your final presentation this year!
You may wear whatever you’d like to for this special event.

Cluster Concert Info and Lyrics




Hey Fifth Graders,

Please remember to practice your music in preparation for the Cluster Concert at Tilden Middle School on Thursday, February 2, 2017.  The concert will start at 7 p.m., but you will need to arrive wearing a white top and black pants/skirt by 6:15 p.m. to the cafeteria.

Creative Cumulative Song Compositions

Third graders are working hard to identify the differences between verse/refrain songs and cumulative songs.  Ms. McClure's class composed some alternate lyrics to the American folk song "Bought Me A Cat."  
You can see what they wrote, a copy of the lyrics to the song it's based on, and a blank template to write your own silly song with your family.  I look forward to seeing some new creations!

Our fifth graders are working hard to identify instruments by sight and sound.  Benjamin Britten's piece "A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" is one of my favorite ways for people--young and old--to review families of instruments (string, woodwind, brass, and percussion), as well as naming the individual instruments you see and hear.  Turn your speakers up and enjoy this well-known piece of music with your family!

Music Sites for Summer Fun!

Here are a few of my favorite websites to explore when you have some extra time with your family this summer.

1)  www.incredibox.com  You, too, can create your own incredible beat boxing mixes!

2)  http://www.philtulga.com/  There are some really great games and activities you can play under the "Activities" tab.  Many of these games connect music to other subject areas, such as math and science.  There are also some ideas for making some of your own instruments, too!

3)  Learn more about "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" by Benjamin Britten and the instruments used by playing this game:  http://listeningadventures.carnegiehall.org/
